just a little morton salt girl in a big world.

This like one of those inspiration movies. Full of sparking energy and inspiration flowing through veins like the effervescence of fresh champagne bubbles. A tale of triumph. Of charater. Of human strength. A little Morton salt girl in a big world. You may actually not think this is all that enduring. but it is and if you don't well, then something must be wrong with you.

It all started yesterday....
You see she went to this meeting about [[this post was just interupt by a 20 min. FIRE DRILL. Saftey First.]] the Boren Scholarship which is this program that gives lots of money to go study abroad in countires that aren't normally studied abroad in. like south africa. or Brazil. its great and gives great funding. to do great great great things and it got her motivated to do all her shit because you have to have a strong application to win. like a chammp. so she was on a mission from God (dollar goes to the person that can name that movie.) And she decided to put her efforts into her UrbanPol paper by doing hard core research at the Worcester Public Lib. First, she missed the bus by 3 mins. Thats like less than five minutes.* She waited and caught the next. Upon arrival to the WPL, she walked towards the general direction of the post office to mail her dear friend, Ann's package. Picture this: a girl clad bright yellow Morton salt girl rainboots, bright green rain jacket, big backpack, and big map that turns as she positions herself from one street corner to the next walking down sidewalks of the equivence of Colfax-ish. She trudged on not to be trifled with. Stopping for directions from the train station lady and sercurity guards realizing the walk was longer than originally reasoned. Only to be stopped by one kinda creepy guy. He says "Wow, now those rain boots are AH-dorable" She thinks to herself: "Uhhh, really now?". She arrives at the post office--raincoat sticky and stuck to her arms. As she akwardly peels it off hitting the package displays, sending envelopes flying, she is stopped by a somewhat less creepy guy, he says "Your yellow rainboots are so cute". She thinks, "Comme on. Can't you see I don't have time for your still creepy comments at this moment, somewhat less creepy guy". She sends the package. She walks out to see a STARBUCKS which she hasn't seen since August. She buys an iced chai. Relief. She arrives back at the Library and approaches the Refrence desk dripping in rain/sweat belovedly holding her empty chai cup. The lady behind the desk can barely see over the counter, fragile wrinkled and tiny. She says "Okay lemme see what I can find" and bends down below the counter. Morton Salt girl thinks: "Hmm, hopefully she has something if not, maybe I'll go back to Starbucks and get a muffin." The little library lady reutrns with 3 stacks of 4 inch binder above which she can barely see. Morton salt girl quietly munches one ice while reading 8 census reports and flipping though magazine articles dating back to the 1960's. The protagonist returns a hero, and the world bows to her and give her the scholarship and tell her that April Fools, there is no paper.

the end. this took pathetically long to write, I should go write my paper.
*if you've ever seen that SpongeBob SquarePants episode with the bus, it was like that.
SO long farewell adverderstein adeu (totally spelled wrong). I am minutes away from embarking on my epic road trip. I hope everything goes well. I just checked the weather report and it recently snowed, so that means that i am going to freeze my butt off! If you dont hear a peep from me by monday, something went wrong and you should call for help. you will most likely find my body frozen to the ground somewhere in Jackson Hole. Goodbye... for now. Hope you guys have a wonderful halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this week better be better than last

well i held off posting for last week, cause last week sucked. lots of tests, projects, late nights of homework, bad football games, homesick and lots and lots of other stuff, so instead, I am going to look towards the future and the epicness of this week (and yes epicness is now an official word). Well this week is homecoming week, so it is packed full of events, including pant the chant, which is basically stomp the yard in real life, trick-or-treating in aggieville (a district in town) a 5k race, which equals a free t-shirt, and lots and lots of other fun events. So here hoping that your weeks are already beginning great:) skype date soon between the three of us??

connection to fame

highlight of my day/week/whatever. watching the middle tonight (hw break). never really watched the show but it was on hulu and I needed somethin mindless. anyways. the episode: so-so BUT in one of the scenes where the mom and dad were going to sleep, I notice that their quilt was the quilt that I so happened to be laying on the moment. you got it folks, those people up in hollywood choose the same quilt for their set as I choose for my college dorm. ohhhh ya. whoa hey. !

Oh Boy What a Week

Well, I decided to wait until the very end of this week to post to ensure that nothing else super exciting happened in the mean time that would get left out. Basically, I did no homework this week, which yes is very bad, but I also had some fun that way! So, Monday night was my last flag football game, and of course we lost, but we were all so excited that it was finally over that we came back to our floor lobby and had a sleepover where we watched The Last Song (and come on Kaylee back me up on this, it was actually a good movie!!!) and then we just rambled on about girl stuff, it was epic. Moving on to Tuesday, well I was exhausted that day from getting no sleep the night before, so I don't remember. Wednesday brought about another movie night, the hilarious Date Night. Thursday is when the real fun started, filled with a 59-7 K-State football victory over KU and then a massive coloring partying with my floor. Friday was Madness in Manhattan, which was a huge pep rally for the upcoming basketball season, which I am too excited for. The highlight was when the team taught us all how to dougie, it was hilarious! After that we went SWING DANCING!!!! Ah it makes me miss last November so much:) But that was epic as well. Saturday was a giant birthday celebration for my friend, so that brought about dinner, ice cream, cigars, and Shutter Island (which was amazing and not scary, please beleive me when I say the previews are very misleading and the movie is actually really good and NOT scary). Now I am sitting here on Sunday night, stressing out about how much I have to get done and how little I have done. I am such a procrasinator! Well, basically that was my life in a nutshell, and I know I am supposed to pick my favorite thing from each week, but I couldn't choose this week so I gave it all to you:) Have a lovely week ladies!

Re: Frances Rambling on Civil Rights (what's new?)

so here's another thing. i've got the need to ramble. a little late night rambling. a dabble so to speak. i'm a little jumbled in my head about this idea and where better to ramble on and on andonandon...I just saw this film about the Rwandan genocide. it was poignant. and quite provoking. it was talking about how these program was enacted in order to help the victims cope with their suffering. they told stories of brother killed before mothers. sacrifice for survival. thetradgedyandturmoilofgenocide. each talked about things that were universal--grief, despair, family unity, strive for peace. peace among people. peace among people. this stuck with me. it reminded my of this quote by martin luther king, he says (in his almighty and deeply pervading voice): "when our days become dreary with low-hovering clouds and our nights become darker than a thousand midnights we will know that we are living in the creative turmoil of a genuine civilization struggling to be born"

but ask, is that enough? enough to know that we suffer, those of the genocides suffer so that a civilization, o great society, can be born? so that this may turn around to happen again? are we just creatures of our own demise? creative turmoil? this i ask, you Dr. King.

this is my liberal education.

ROAD TRIPPIN

So, the highlight of my week is that some friends and I are beginning to plan for our next block break, which occurs the week of Halloween. We are going on an EPIC road trip to Yellowstone in just four days! The drive is 10 hrs. On our first day we will travel for 7 hrs and stop in a town called Pinedale, where we have reserved as spot for ourselves in a TP. Now don't be too jealous, but yes, we will be rocking it Cowboy and Indian style. Then we will proceed to Jackson Hole, WY, only a few hrs away, where we will frolic in the mountains and admire the town. We will stay in Jackson Hole for the night and in the morning drive 2 hrs to Yellowstone where we will spend the entirety of the day taking in the beautiful natural park. When the sun begins to set we will retreat back to Jackson Hole. sleep. then drive back down to Fort Collins where we will spend the night and spend half the day on Halloween touring the city. I am soooooooooo excited. Now I just have to wait 2 freaking weeks!!!! Can this block go any slower?!

Monday, October 11, 2010

Well Frances, you are not the only bored one of the wolfpack. I too have been facing epic boredom. I have a terrible sore throat, in fact it is so sore that I am unable to speak. I am desperate to cure this terrible illness so while all of my friends go and do things I quarantine myself to my room and drink tea, emergenC and sleep and sleep and sleep. When I am not sleeping I am bored. I too have been aimlessly surfing the internet, just because it is something to do. Actually, last night I stumbled upon a really cool t-shirt website and came extremely close to buying 3 shirts. Luckily, I stopped myself just before checkout, there's 40 dollars saved. If only we were in the same city, then we could be bored together. Possibly make some awesome collages or another blog or something.

Other than being bored, I have been working on registering for classes for the rest of the year. TALK ABOUT STRESS! Not only are there like a gazillion classes I have to filter my way through but I also have to decide how many points to put on each class. Registering here is based on a lottery system so you pretty much have to bet to get into your classes. It is terrible because I actually have to make decisions now! Which, as the two of you know, I absolutely suck at.

So that is my life at this very moment . sore throat. boredom. stress. fantastic.

blackhole boredom

so its fall break and its eeempty here. deserted, practically man vs. wild. iwas going to go explore the woo but the consortium is unbenownst to me, not in service to day due to the observance of the thou, Christopher Colombus. so, stuck in the blackhole of boredom. nothing to do. what shall I do? learn guitar, without a guitar, maybe so. have a dance party by myself, maybe so. read a book on jazz, maybe so. bored. browse the internet, yes, probably so. hmmmm, and its only ten o'clock. o'clock de ten.
look up : she wolf cover by Danielle Ate the Sandwich. good stuff. love that folkyy music.

kaylee--go to the top and sign in. You have to have an email password so hopefully you can remember what that was.

ann-congratulation on the default wins--why does this not suprise me. just kidding. but seriously.

Resurection of the Blog!

Oh hey! so I am definetly the last to catch onto this ha ha! way to go me:) but i love that we are starting this back up because I miss you both so much and mostly miss hearing about your crazy stories and your lives. well lets see the best part of my week was tailgating before the nebraska game on thursday. it was super fun, we had a blast! ranking right up there is how my floor's flag football team made the playoffs officially today because for two weeks in a row the other team didn't show up...ha ha so we made it in by default. I thought that was pretty funny! I am so glad you got to see your sister kaylee, I already creeped on some pictures on facebook from the trip. I know I am still just as creepy as before. Well, other than that I have mostly been running, studying, working and just hanging out, overall its been so much fun:) can't wait to hear back from everyone....(and that includes our one and only follower)

Dearest Month of May,

Dearest month of May,
You in some ways make me decay
But I hope you know
For all you show…

Despite your nasty tests—
(my new desire to go west,
take off with the best,
kick back for some rest)—

May, I say
You are quite
something, today.

A play in the game
(Besides all the fame)
A reminder,
A binder,
Filled with the past
I am aghast…

You, my dear, mean
The end of this (scene),
The final call to the stage,
As a newfound sage.
Our knowledge cannot surmount
Those memories we cannot count.

May, I please add,
I am quite sad.
The soon to be grads…
Intellectual plaids…
Mom and Dad’s…

We move through our lives
That speed continues to rise
May, we step back
Look at the plaque

On which our names have been written.

Love,
Frances

A Little Motivation

Well considering the next three weeks will probably be ones sent straight from hell, I thought it might be helpful to provide a little motivation:

1. WE GRADUATE IN 20 DAYS AND WILL NEVER HAVE TO RETURN TO HIGH SCHOOL AGAIN!!!!!

and if that fact wasn't enough...

2. A picture of a wombat is just plain funny!
3. There are three new Glee episodes from now until then (power of positive thinking)
4. There will be plenty of partys after graduation to make up for all the weekends that will be spent studying instead of out having fun...
5. Yearbooks come out on Wednesday
6. There will be plenty of ultimate frisbee playing in the weeks to come instead of going to class
7. We only have to listen to Ms. Fornstrom for yes count it, 4 more classes (sorry Frances, yours is a little bit higher, but not much!)
8. The IB picnic is coming up, and lets be honest we deserve at least a picnic congratulating us for all we have accomplished
9. Spring Fling is on the 14th...along with the Senior march through the hall, senior slideshow and the senior assembly!!! How exciting, we have only waiting 4 years for this!
10. We still have three weeks to make up for the lack of pictures that we took over the past four years...plenty of time for more laughs, memories, and just plain ol' good times:)
Well hope this helps in the weeks to come to push us all over the finish line! This is what we have worked for:)

Who Needs College?

Ok so just recently I have decided upon a new path for my life. Seeing as I will probably never finish this never ending Math Internal Assesment, I have decided to drop out of school now, so I don't waste anymore typing up daunting math equations. Since I can no longer go to college if I don't finish High School, I have decided to live at home for the rest of my life, mooching off of my parents, watching countless hours of TV everyday, and becoming a complete bum...maybe on second thought, I will just finish the math IA, I haven't decided for sure yet;)

Max Ehrmann's Desiderata

This is one of my favorite poems, and I wanted to share. It makes you kinda love the world.

Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career,
however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery,
and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

FML- The Outcast Diaries

Day one: The Back of the Bus
Stupidly thinking that others would join us, we sat at the back of the bus. When no one did, we ended up stuck between the horrible, ear-shattering voices of Brett and Taylor and the annoying commentary by Zambo and boy Taylor. Meanwhile, everyone else seemed to be having a jolly old time at the front of the bus. We were the only two people who watched all three movies. We even went 3+ hours of not speaking to each other. FML

The Arrival:
After finally reaching Santa Fe, 8 hours later, the team headed over to the course. Thinking things could only go up hill from here, we decided to try bonding. We thought that the best way to do this would be to participate in our own Frisbee club; this was not the case. You thought picking teams via the captain system was only a nightmare in elementary school... WRONG! Not only were we the last girls picked but Kaylee was consistently called Kylie. FML

Dinner: The List Never Ends
We could tell dinner was going to suck early on when we were shunned to the small corner table with two people who were obsessed with video games. Shortly after sitting down we realized what major outcasts were were. Once two other tables joined to form a "fun" table (which we obviously were not a part of) we instinctively fled to the bathroom in order to avoid yet another awkward moment. Upon return we derived a genius plan- fill the silent moments where we really felt like crying with laughter so at least people would think that we were having a good time. Our first execution of the plan worked perfectly when our laughter caught the attention of the "fun" table- finally contact with the insiders! we were proud of this accomplishment even if only few words were exchanged.
Contact number two occurred about a half an hour later when an insider asked if we had our food yet. The night was looking up!

Key Quotes:
"If you just keep laughing it won't hurt so bad"- insider referring to tennis
"I'm tired of being left out of everything"- insider, jokingly, we aren't joking

You Know You're an Outsider When:
1)You write a book about being an outsider.
2)You spend more time talking to chaperones than to teammates.
3)When the gift meant for you is opened by others.
4)You only have one conversation with an insider, all day.
5)You get left behind on the team's run through of the course.
6)You don't get a dog tag
7)Teammates didn't know you were on the bus until the first stop in Pueblo.

I Don't Know

ok....so today I left school thinking I was going to have a relaxing spa day with my sisters....oh boy was that my first mistake! So I decided that I was going to get my eyebrows waxed with my girft card, mostly because it was in my price range, but also cause I thought it would be handy. So I enter this nice, relaxing room, with soothing music playing...and I think alright this is nice. So they lady, (who was fairly nice) began by telling me the wax may be a little warm, but everyone acts differently. I brace myself, thinking that it would feel like my face was on fire, but luckily it felt quite nice. Then she goes to rip off the strip, and I thought oh man here comes the real pain, but even that didn't feel that bad, since I wasn't expecting it. The lady then goes to do the second section, and after she rips it off she says "Oh no!" and I'm sitting there going oh shit!!! It turns out she ripped off a piece of my skin along with it, so basically now inbetween my eyebrows I have this gigantic red spot that you can't help but stare at when you see it....WONDERFUL! THe only good part was it was free since she waxed more than just my eyebrows, so I still have my whole giftcard left. The bad news is, I look like an idiot!

Self-Diagnosis

I was feeling unusually tired today, especially since I had gotten more than 10 hours of sleep last night(Ann suggested that I got TOO much sleep) and so I decided to look up the affects of too much sleep, get this: "studies" show oversleeping can lead to heart disease, back pain, depression, diabetes, headaches and even...DEATH! Ya, death: "Multiple studies have shown that more than seven or eight hours of sleep can lead to higher fatality rates". Looks like I'm a gone-er...

HAIR

I have been slaving away on my 100 things to do before i die list and one of the items on it is to give someone a decent haircut, well today was my lucky day. My sister allowed my to cut her hair!!!!! That moment just about made my life. I stood behind her with a pair of shiny, silver scissors, gazing upon her beautiful golden blond head and knew that I, Kaylee Elizabeth, had the power to make her look even more gorgeous than she already was. Now that the job is complete and Lauren looks like a super model (not to brag or anything) I have a new found appreciation for hairstylists. I never knew how physically exhausting it is to cut and style a person's hair and make it look good. The part that truly baffles me is how talented they are at combing the hair while holding it and the scissors- it is an amazing art. I can honestly say that I am a changed person, I will never look at the haircutting industry the same again.

1 list item done, 99 to go... HELL YEAH! my life is slowly becoming more fulfilled

P.S. if you would like your hair cut and styled I am now charging $5.00 a piece

shewolf

I know you are all familiar with the She Wolf music video by Shakira, I have showed it to you on multiple occasions. Well, today I was reading a Rolling Stones Magazine about Shakira and to my great horror, I discovered that the cave she is dancing through in the music video is intended to be/ look like the inside of a VAGINA! I sure hope my nether regions don't look like that with all the glitter and such. What kind of creepy metaphor is that supposed to be? Who wants to dance around in their own vagina?

feet

Today, I was reading about my terrible foot problem, which you are probably tired of hearing about already, and I discovered that bone spurs mainly happen in middle-aged adults. OMG! How terrifying is that! I am not even an adult yet and I am facing the physical ailments of someone my mothers age! Here we are finishing off our senior year of high school and instead of entering adulthood, my body is entering the stage of senior citizenship. By the time I am fifty I will probably be living in the body of a ninety two year old. FUCK MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

------ sorry for the language i just thought that i would vent. What better way than online on a web page that nobody truly cares about?

Three Man Wolf Pack

This wouldn't be an appropriate blog for the three of us, if this wasn't included:

How 'bout that ride in? I guess that's why they call it sin city...ha ha

You guys may not know this, but I consider myself…a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one man wolf pack. But when my sister brought Doug home, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack, it grew by one. So were two…so there was two of us in the pack. I…I was alone first in the pack, and then Doug joined in later.

And 6 months ago, when Doug introduced me to you guys. I thought…wait a second, could it be. And now I know for sure, I just added 2 more guys to my wolf pack. 4 of us wolves running around the desert together, in Las Vegas looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, we make a toast!

Narwals (LIVE)

The Beginning...

Last day of winter break. 136 days till graduation. Three high school seniors, this is our story.
